Dealing with critics

Difficult things in leadership are to say and do something critical…

So, how to deal with it? What could we do on a daily basis to be prepared to face such situation?

What is leadership?

“…if I didn’t take people where they hired me to take them, I wouldn’t expect them to get back to me…
We expect leaders to take us where we want to go.
The problem, it seems to me, begins when they don’t. When things do not improve and yet these leaders keep expecting us to get on (their) board…
I think this is when leaders become something else: politicians.”
[Capheus]

Change Management

How to communicate about a change effectively, so the intrinsic inertia of change is reduced to its minimum possible.

Bigger the change is, more impactful the change is, more difficult it will be for the people to engage in the change, thus creating a delay in acceptance and a drop in motivation; this is called the intrinsic inertia of change. This is only because of the human brain structure, and main purpose to protect us against the unknown, against risks, etc…

The sweet poison of the company of others

Organising your world, giving it meaning is not an easy task because we are not alone.

Our world is made with others. Everywhere we look, what we see sends us back to others. This field, along which we walk, has been ploughed by someone to produce what will be consumed by others; this boat, moored to the shore, belongs to human beings who use it for their promenade. The traces of others are there, everywhere. They have, like us, installed their space; so, we must do with them, in our turn. Living in your own world necessarily supposes meeting the resistance, the opposition, even the competition generated by the presence of others.

Boredom

Existential philosophers say that the man of today is bored. You and I are bored. This does not prevent us from leading “full”, very busy, even hectic lives: How is it possible then to be bored? Doesn’t boredom come precisely from the absence of occupations or the emptiness associated with repetitive and tedious occupation?

Really living – dealing with reality

If we look at our life, at our being there, and we see and experience that our life has always to do with the world, with the facts, with the reality around us, and the facts within us, there are givens: my body – my psyche, these are given facts. There are outer facts: like the physical, or chemical, or biological, or physiological reality in which I am, economical reality , political reality, we are always at to deal with facts. Which we can call our world.

Really Living – The connection with life

We are living as Human Beings having a physical life in us, and a psychological life and let’s say a personal-spiritual life of culture and encounter.
So, to live our life, be touched by our life, be connected with our life. When we just function, we do not really live.

The Role of “Liking” in my life

Liking is an element of motivation. It “starts” the motor and brings power in my life and triggers movement. If liking is there, power is in my motivation. Without liking the motivation has no life.

Really Living – the connection with ME

And here the question comes up if that what I do corresponds to me, to my essence, to my me as a person. If I really can stand behind that what I do personally. If I really had a feeling that what I do shows me is in connection with me, that I can be authentic.

Really Living – in a greater horizon

We are always horizontally seen in a system, in a bigger connection, to a greater context.

And whatever we do impacts this context, and whatever the context is has an impact up on me; there is a continuous exchange.

When my environment is supporting and friendly, this stimulates me to support my environment and return. When my entire environment is hostile this stimulates me to be hostile as well.

So, we are in a constant exchange with the greater context, horizon in which we are.

Horizontally but also vertically in time: we are our past, we are in the present, and we are going and looking into a future – This is one line.

And, when we look for having inner consent, the fourth requirement is that we see that we are in a good context, that this relationship in which I live for instance is still worth being lived, it is a good envelop for my life or a good coat for my life, and that there is a value in the future which is coming up.

Colours

By having them constantly in front of you, you end up seeing them no longer. In short, we do not take them seriously.

Mistake ! the colours are not trivial, on the contrary. They convey codes, taboos, prejudices to which we obey without knowing it, they have various meanings which deeply influence our environment, our behaviours, our language and our imagination.
